FAQs
What is coaching?
Coaching is a relatively new discipline and can be widely defined. Here at Guiding Light Coaching, we define this as a highly individualized process, focused on awareness, education, and tools. The hope of this process is for both the coach (me) and client (you) to work together to assess your goals and the roadblocks toward them and subsequently learn how to navigate through those roadblocks.
Is coaching the same as therapy?
In a word - no. The coaching relationship does not and cannot replace a therapeutic relationship. While both place an emphasis on talking, therapists have the capacity to diagnose and treat mental disorders, whereas coaching does not.
What should I work on here?
That all depends on you. Maybe you have found yourself burnt out at work. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into a career and are feeling overwhelmed. Maybe you feel lost or stuck and are hoping to find purpose. Whatever you bring to the table (even if that is "nothing"), we can explore and find a path forward together.
When do I stop coaching?
Great question! Due to the highly individualistic nature of this process, that answer is different for everyone. If you are joining with the purpose of finishing a single goal, you may stop in a few weeks or months. If you are joining with the purpose of developing new mental health toolkits, we may work together much longer. Our goal is to empower you toward personal agency - so we will check in with you throughout the process to determine if it's right for you to continue or not.
